\\ WELCOME TO THE 98 NET //

Because the internet was simpler.

Yesterday

It's a nice, surprisngly cool, summer day in 1998. You've finally been free from school for summer break for a few weeks. You booted up your computer running Windows 98. You're browsing the net. You're clicking links, getting your ears blasted with random autoplaying MIDI files, your eyes burnt with the bright neon colors being displayed on your screen, barely readable text, pixelated, low quality images, and then you're met with an ugly, atrocious layout.

Well, if you went to a site made by a kid or something.

Or, one made by somebody with no sense of what an appealing design is.

Either way, every website in the 90s had their charms. Personal websites had some sort of warm, welcoming vibes. People could put anything they want on their website. People would just pour their hearts out to make these sites, all for fun. They would put their art, music, writing, pictures, anything!

Today

But where is that now? Why do we no longer create those personal websites for the whole world to see? Why do we not have any sort of creativity nowadays? You could go up to somebody today and ask them, "Do you have your own website?", they would think you're crazy. Today, everyones "personal websites" would be their social media profiles. But, where's the fun and creativity on a social media profile? You can't customize it the way you want. Sure, you can change a banner, or a profile picuture, but that's it! Social media is very dull and boring. Not to mention, it can also be very draining for you. So, why don't you just drop it if you haven't already, and make your own site! Why? Because the internet was simpler.
